Maybe they should make an actually working unified format/interface for the codecs, so they would be easy to maintain even manually. Codecs change and new stuff comes along all the time, so you're bound to end up in a situation where the codec you want isn't available from the automatic download center. They should have done the whole thing right in the first place.
